group of citizens led by Cheryl Geiler and Nancy Saunders desired to create an
event to celebrate various parts of our community. Since the Village of Beaver
was the home of many German immigrants, it was decided the festival would
recognize the town's German heritage. It was a single day event with the
Mayor of Beaver designating November 9, 1985 as Oktoberfest Day.
Since that original festival the Beaver Oktoberfest has grown to a three day
event, always held the first full weekend of October. With 2009 marking the
twenty-fifth festival, Oktoberfest organizers have decided to extend the
celebration to four days. Eastern Local Schools, in recognition of the festival,
will not have school on Friday October 2.
